Diabetes and Colorectal Cancer
People with diabetes may be three times more likely to develop colorectal cancer, a recent study shows. Almost 10,000 adults between the ages of 45 and 79 were tested for a marker in the blood sugar, then were followed up six years later. Researchers found that those with diabetes or abnormal glucose metabolism were more likely to develop bowel cancer. (Diabetes Research)

Study Finds Link Between Alzheimer's, Diabetes
A statistical analysis found that people with diabetes had a much higher rate of developing Alzheimer's disease than those who don't have diabetes. Age is still the greatest risk factor for developing Alzheimer's. One in 10 Americans over 65 and nearly half of those over 85 have the incurable, progressive brain disease.

Gastroparesis & Diabetes
Gastroparesis, also called delayed gastric emptying, is a disorder in which the stomach takes too long to empty its contents. It often occurs in people with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. Gastroparesis can also complicate efforts to control blood sugar levels with medication because it disrupts the timing of the digestive process.

Causes of Type II Diabetes
Unlike people with type I diabetes who become unable to produce insulin, people with type II diabetes produce insulin. But, either the body does not respond to insulin's action-it's resistant-or there is just not enough insulin to go around-there's too much body for the amount of insulin that's made. Either problem leads to the same outcome: high levels of glucose in the blood. (Type 2  Diabetes and Diabetes Education)

VANADIUM: Diabetes Therapy
The case for nutrients to replace pharmaceuticals is powerfully strengthened by the recent explosion of knowledge about a trace mineral that dramatically helps diabetics: vanadium. (Vanadyl Sulfate, Diabetic Product)

Diabetes And Heart Disease
If you have diabetes, you have a high risk for having a heart attack or a stroke. You are more likely to get heart disease--and at a younger age--than someone without diabetes. There are things you can do to reduce your risk for heart disease. Learning about the ABCs of diabetes can help you control your condition and stay healthy. (Diabetes Education and Diabetes Management)

Prevention of Diabetes Among the Elderly
Diabetes greatly increases premature deaths among people 65 and older, says a Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center study. The study of 148,519 people found the death rate among people 65 and older was 10 percent per year among those with diabetes and 6 percent per year among those without diabetes. These new findings suggest that prevention of diabetes among the elderly should be a priority. (Diabetes Research)

Eye Disease Before Diabetes?
Eye disease (retinopathy) commonly associated with diabetes may actually develop in people before the diabetes itself, say researchers. (Retinopathy, Diabetic Complications)

ADA Blood Sugar Goals for Diabetes
Are you wondering what your blood sugar goals should be? These goals provided by the American Diabetes Association are determined from studies that examined the effects of near-normal blood sugar levels on the rates of diabetic complications. (Blood Sugar Level and Diabetes Management)

Frozen Shoulder and Diabetes
Diabetes is known to affect the shoulder in several ways. Frozen shoulder seems to be the most common - with up to 20% of diabetic patients developing it at some time or other.  Diabetics not only get frozen shoulder more often than others but it lasts longer and is more painful for them when they do. (Diabetic Complications, Diabetes Care, Diabetes Treatment)

Get A "Grrip!": Diabetes and Your Hands
When you hear about the complications of diabetes, you usually hear about your heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves, and feet. But diabetes can affect the muscles and joints of your hands, too. Diabetes-related hand conditions are usually not life-threatening, but they can have a great impact on the quality of your life. (Diabetic Complications, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Stiff-Hand Syndrome, Dupuytren's Contracture)

Vitamin Deficiency Common In Diabetes
Something like three out of every five patients with type 2 diabetes show signs of vitamin D deficiency. Widespread screening for vitamin D deficiency or routine vitamin D supplementation should be seriously considered for people with diabetes according to a recent report. (Diabetic Nutrition and Diabetes Diet)

Erectile Dysfunction and Diabetes: Keys to Prevention and Treatment
Erectile dysfunction is a common complication of diabetes. You can reduce your risk of developing erectile dysfunction, prevent it from worsening and, in many cases, safely and effectively treat it. (Erectile Dysfunction, Diabetic Complications, Neuropathy, Cardiovascular Disease)

Diabetes Diet
The more we've learned about diabetes, the more we've come to understand that those who suffer from it don't need to be on a specific diet, but rather they should follow certain guidelines for eating. By doing so, they'll better control their diabetes and general health. (Diabetes Diet and Diabetic Meal Planning)

Diabetes Tied to Enlarged Prostate
Researchers report that, BPH, or benign prostate hyperplasia, is a common condition in older men, but the risk of developing the condition seems to be increased by obesity and high blood sugar levels. (BPH, Benign Prostate Hyperplasia, Diabetic Complications)
