Good Fats and Bad Fats
Some fats are bad such as saturated fats and trans-fats. However, there's another kind of fat called essential fatty acids - and they are indeed essential. These unsaturated fats, including omega-3 and omega-6 fats, make our cell membranes more flexible, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and reduce mortality from heart disease. (Diabetic Nutrition, Essential Fatty Acids, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure)

Diabetes: The Other "Silent Killer"
Like high blood pressure, diabetes is a disease that sneaks up on millions of Americans. It's increasingly recognized as a major cause of death and disability, yet many who suffer from diabetes are unaware they even have it until they experience a debilitating side effect of the disease. (High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, Stroke, Nerve Damage)

All About Peripheral Arterial Disease
Peripheral arterial disease, also called PAD, occurs when blood vessels in the legs are narrowed or blocked by fatty deposits. Blood flow to your feet and legs decreases. If you have PAD, you have an increased risk for heart attack and stroke. An estimated one out of every three people with diabetes over the age of 50 have this condition. However, many of those with warning signs don't realize that they have PAD and therefore don't get treatment. (Diabetes Complications, Heart Attack, Stroke)

Beware of High Blood Pressure
Uncontrolled diabetes contributes to the accelerated buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries (atherosclerosis), and it plays a prominent role in the development of high blood pressure. High blood pressure (hypertension) is reported more often in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics than in the general population. (Diabetes Education and Diabetic Nutrition)

High Blood Pressure and Diabetes; A Deadly Duo
High blood pressure (or hypertension) isn't called "the silent killer" for nothing. Oftentimes people will have it and not even know it until it's too late.  For most people with diabetes, keeping blood pressure below 130/80 will help prevent problems.

Men and Diabetes
Complications of diabetes in men can include sexual dysfunction, heart disease, diabetic retinopathy, intermittent claudication and neuropathy. Diabetes research has brought to light the importance of prevention;  including improved blood glucose control, blood pressure control and improved control of cholesterol and lipids.

Blood Pressure - The Stats
Half of all Americans 55 and older have high blood pressure rising to 63 percent after age 65. Three-fourths of African Americans over 65 have it. (High Blood Pressure, Stroke)

Hitting A Nerve
Neuropathy is one of the best arguments to fight blood glucose control. It's a nerve disorder that can affect almost every system in your body. It results from bursts of high blood glucose that cause oxidative stress to the nerves. (Peripheral Neuropathy, Autonomic Neuropathy)

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
CoQ10 has the ability to protect and strengthen the heart and lower blood pressure. CoQ10 is a vital enzyme, a catalyst to the production of energy in our cells. Without it, our cells simply won't work. (Coenzyme Q10, High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, Angina)

Why You Need The Omega-3s
The omega-3s protect the heart in several key ways. They reduce inflammation, they are mild blood thinners, slow the heart rate, improve blood-vessel flexibility and improve heart rhythm. (Fish Oil, Heart Disease, Retinopathy)

Omega-3 EPA Linked To Heart Disease Protection
People with high cholesterol levels and taking statins reduced their frequency of major cardiac events by about 20 percent when supplemented with the omega-3 of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), researchers have reported. (High Cholesterol, Heart Attack, Sudden Cardiac Death)

Review Backs Antidepressant Effects Of Omega-3s
The results of a major review of published research that examined the relationship between depression and level of omega-3 fatty acids in the diet suggest that omega-3 fatty acids have antidepressant effects. (Depression, Fish Oil, Omega Fatty Acids)

Counting Sheep to Reverse the Clock: How Getting Enough Sleep Slows Aging
Getting adequate sleep each night is one of the cornerstones of maintaining optimal health. Most experts agree that getting 6-8 hours of restful, rejuvenating sleep each night is essential to maintaining optimal focus, concentration, mood and energy levels. (Cortisol, Human Growth Hormone, Immune System, Rejuvenating Sleep)

Vitamin B12 Screening Urged for Metformin Users
A study presented in June 2009 at the American Diabetes Association's 69th Annual Scientific Sessions, looked at the prevalence of vitamin B12 deficiency in 76 people with type 2 diabetes who had been taking Metformin for at least one year. The results showed that more than 75% of Metformin users who had low vitamin B12 levels also had evidence of peripheral neuropathy.

Promoting And Protecting Brain Health
In addition to choosing fresh, organic foods and using brain-healthy ways to prepare them, it is possible to further boost the health of our brains by supplementing our daily menu of foods with vitamins, minerals, and other supplements that specifically target and enrich the function of the brain. In truth, it can be hard to get the optimal levels of the vitamins and minerals we need through diet alone. (Alzheimers, Memory, Concentration, Phosphatidylcholine, Alpha GPC, Alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine, Mental Focus)
